Lead Teacher for Children’s Ministry
Woodridge Congregational Church & First Korean Church of RI
Help us create a joyful, inclusive, and engaging faith formation experience for children.
$28/hour · Minimum 5 hours/week during the program year · Year-round
About the Role
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys children and can create a welcoming and engaging environment where children can encounter stories of faith, ask questions, build relationships, and know that they are valued and loved.
This isn't simply about teaching a lesson on Sunday morning. We're looking for someone who can become a consistent, caring presence in the lives of our children and help our two congregations continue developing a vibrant ministry with children and families.
The Lead Teacher will be supervised by the Pastor of Woodridge Congregational Church and work collaboratively with leaders from both congregations.
Hours & Compensation
$28 per hour
During the regular Sunday School year, the position includes a guaranteed minimum of 5 paid hours per week, including teaching, preparation, communication, volunteer coordination, and other responsibilities.
The Lead Teacher will generally be at the church on Sundays from approximately 9:45 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
During the summer, when Woodridge's regular Sunday School is on break, the Lead Teacher will continue teaching during First Korean Church's Sunday service, with a guaranteed minimum of 2.5 paid hours per week. Depending on the candidate's interests and availability, additional paid hours may be available through Woodridge for summer children's programming, worship, childcare, community events, or other opportunities involving children and families.
Who We're Looking For
You might be a teacher, retired educator, education student, childcare professional, children's program leader—or simply someone with meaningful experience working with children.
We're especially interested in someone who is:
Warm, patient, dependable, flexible, and creative
Experienced in teaching, childcare, or children's programming
Comfortable collaborating with parents, volunteers, staff, and two congregations
Comfortable in a progressive Christian environment where questions and different perspectives are welcome
Committed to creating an inclusive environment for children and families of all backgrounds, abilities, family structures, gender identities, and sexual orientations
Formal theological education and previous church employment are not required.
